Statewide 24 hour new case records set Thursday then another today

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting today 4,290 new COVID-19 cases over the last 48 hours (1,172 new cases on Wednesday), to bring the total so far to 143,495, up from 139,269 on Wednesday. ISHD reported 1,962 new cases on Thursday; and 2,328 new cases today. Today’s 2,328 new cases are a single-day record. Thursday’s 1,962 new cases were the previous record, breaking the last record of 1,832 set Oct. 9.

ISDH was also reporting today 51 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 48 hours (14 additional deaths on Wednesday), to bring the total to date to 3,705, up from 3,851 on Wednesday.

IDSH reported 28 additional deaths on Thursday; and 23 today.

In addition, ISDH was reporting today 1,311 hospitalizations, down from 1,355 on Thursday (1,357 hospitalizations on Wednesday): all three days reporting the most hospitalizations since May 13, when ISDH reported 1,381.

Marion County was reporting today 24,034 cases (23,611 on Wednesday) and 777 deaths (774), the most in the state in both categories. Lake County was reporting 12,189 cases (12,189) and 346 deaths (340), the second most in the state in both categories. LaPorte County was reporting 2,008 cases (1,928) and 52 deaths (50).

Meanwhile, ISDH was reporting today 42,387 total student cases statewide, 481 total teacher cases, and 542 total staff cases.
