State virus toll continues to rise

The Indiana State Department of Health was reporting this morning 656 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 13,680, up from 13,039 on Thursday.

The 656 new cases represent an increase of 5 percent over the last 24 hours.

ISDH also reported 35 additional deaths, for a total of 741, up from 706, an increase of 5 percent over the last 24 hours. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

Meanwhile, 75,553 tests have been reported to date to ISDH, up from 72,040, with a positive rate of 18.1 percent. Tests are being conducted by ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and private laboratories.

Tests in Marion County: 21,195 (20,355 on Thursday). In Porter County: 1,368 (1,347). In Lake County: 6,797 (6,239). In LaPorte County: 1,006 (966).

Marion County has the most reported cases, 4,537 (4,408 on Thursday); and the most deaths, 238 (228). Lake County has reported 1,445 (1,346) and 63 deaths (61), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 149 cases and five deaths (148 and five).
