State reports record cases deaths top 3,500

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning a one-day record of new cases: 1,499 over the last 24 hours (850 new cases on Thursday), to bring the total so far to 109,683, up from 108,646.

The previous one-day record was 1,279, set on Aug. 6.

ISDH was also reporting 17 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (six additional deaths on Thursday), to bring the total to date to 3,503, up from 3,486 on Wednesday.

Marion County was reporting today 20,510 cases (20,341) and 758 deaths (757), the most in the state in both categories. Lake County was reporting 10,095 cases (10,013) and 315 deaths (312), the second most in the state in both categories. LaPorte County was reporting 1,351 cases (1,348) and 37 deaths (37).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 225 presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Thursday.
