State reports 51 deaths and 2,062 cases

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting today 2,062 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours (2,009 new cases on Monday), to bring the total so far to 166,564.

ISHD was also reporting today 51 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (13 additional deaths on Monday), to bring the total to date to 4,216.

In addition, ISDH was reporting today 1,687 hospitalizations, up from 1,634 on Monday: the most hospitalizations since April 14, when ISDH reported 1,689 hospitalizations.

Marion County was reporting today 26,255 on Tuesday and 795 deaths, the most in the state in both categories. Lake County was reporting 14,627 and 362 deaths, the second most in the state in both categories. LaPorte County was reporting 2,414 cases and 64 deaths.

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 236, presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Monday.

Meanwhile, as of Monday ISDH was reporting 639 new student cases statewide (3,507 total); 135 new teacher cases (719 total); and 141 new staff cases (801 total).

There were 562 schools with no reported cases, down from 622 last week; 1,314 schools with one or more cases, up from 1,168 schools last week ; and 490 schools that have not reported, down from 576 schools last week.
