State COVID19 cases top 5,000

The Indiana State Department of Health (IDSH) is reporting this morning that 568 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, up from 4,944 on Monday, for a total of 5,507.

The 568 new cases represent an increase of 11 percent over the last 24 hours.

A total of 173 Hoosiers to date have died, up from 139 on Monday, an increase of 24 percent over the last 24 hours. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by IDSH and occurred over multiple days.

Meanwhile, 28,764 COVID-19 tests have been conducted, up from 26,192 on Monday. Tests are being conducted by IDSH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and private laboratories.

Marion County had the most new cases, wtih 193. Other counties with more than 10 new cases were Lake (52), Allen (12), Clark (11), Floyd (16), Hamilton (22), Hancock (14), Harrison (11), Hendricks (27), Johnson (19), Madison (34), and St. Joseph (17). The Lake County total of 52 cases includes results from East Chicago and Gary, which have their own health departments.
