'Spirits at the Waterbird' Saturday to benefit music

The Chesterton High School Parent Band Booster Association along with Pat’s Liquors and the Water Bird Lakeside Spa and Banquet Center, will host the third annual “Spirits at the Water Bird” wine and beer tasting event this Saturday, March 8 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

These two local merchants are working together with the parent organized Band Boosters to raise funds in support of the Chesterton High School band program. This is especially important this year because plans are under way for the members of the 2014/2015 CHS Trojan Guard marching band, along with those students in the CHS Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble to take part in Tampa, Florida’s National Outback Bowl Music Festival in late December.

Prior to taking part in the Outback Bowl competitions, the students, staff, and parent chaperones will also spend three days enjoying Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, and Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. In addition to the Trojan Guard’s participation in the half-time festivities at the Outback Bowl football game, the group will compete in the New Year’s Eve parade competition, the concert competition, and the jazz festival associated with the event. While in Orlando, the members of the Trojan Guard will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience by performing in a parade down “Main Street” at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

“The band parents and music staff are very excited to have the continued support of these two local businesses for this event,” said Mike Scheiber, director of the CHS band program. “This is the third year for the ‘Spirits at the Water Bird’ and we’re all expecting it to be the biggest year yet.”

“Spirits at the Water Bird” will be Saturday, March 8 from 2:00-5:00 p.m., at the Water Bird Lakeside Spa and Banquet Center, 556 Indian Boundary Rd., Chesterton.

Tickets will be available at the door for $40 per person, and $70 per couple. Patrons must be 21 years of age to purchase tickets and attend the event.

All proceeds will be donated to the CHS Band Booster Association in support of the CHS band program.
