Six new C19 cases in Porter County

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning six new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours (10 new cases on Tuesday), to bring the total so far to 721, up from 715 on Tuesday.

Over the last seven days--Thursday, June 25, through today--the Health Department has reported 71 new cases, an increase of 11 percent.

Of the six new cases reported today, two are in the younger demographics: one in 20-29 (124 total); and one in 40-49 (122 total). Total cases to date in the 0-19: 37. Total in 30-39: 113. Fifty-five percent of all COVID-19 cases reported in Porter County to date are in demographics younger than 50-59.

Four patients are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Tuesday; while 582 have recovered, up from 581 on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, the Indiana State Department of Health was reporting 9,587 COVID-19 tests in Porter County, with a positivity rate of 7.1 percent, which compares favorably to the state's own positivity rate of 9.5 percent. The lower the positivity rate, the more extensive a community's testing program is. It's important to note that the 71 new COVID-19 cases in Porter County over the last seven days have not been accompanied by any significant increase in hospitalizations. Although hospitalizations rose on Tuesday to four, for the last week the number had been steady at two.

No additional deaths were reported today. Thirty-seven Porter County residents so far have died of COVID-19.

To date, 101 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Porter County's long-term care facilities, while 26 patients have died and 69 have recovered, all unchanged from Tuesday. There were no hospitalizations reported today, compared to one on Tuesday.

Duneland cases by township, all unchanged from Tuesday.

-- Westchester: 52 cases. Eleven active cases.

-- Liberty: 27 cases. Two active cases.

-- Jackson: Two cases, neither active.

-- Pine: Seven cases, none of them active.

Other townships:

-- Portage: 287 cases (unchanged from Tuesday).

-- Center: 207 cases (203 on Tuesday).

-- Washington: 56 cases (unchanged from Tuesday).

-- Union: 33 cases (31 on Tuesday).

State C19 cases near 46,000

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 371 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours (385 new cases on Tuesday), to bring total cases so far to 45,952, up from 45,594 on Tuesday.

ISDH was also reporting today an additional 10 deaths over the last 24 hours (an additional 16 deaths on Tuesday), to bring total deaths so far to 2,653, up from 2,643.

Nursing home cases and deaths to date: 5,342 cases and 1,166 deaths (unchanged from Tuesday).

Marion County has the most reported cases, 11,387 (11,329 on Tuesday); and the most deaths, 679 (679). Lake County has reported 4,872 cases (4,847) and 240 deaths (239), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 539 cases and 25 deaths (534 and 25).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 194 presumptive deaths was reported today, up from 192 on Tuesday.
