Six more Porter County residents have succumbed to COVID-19, the Porter County Health Department (PCHD) reported after deadline on Wednesday. Two were from Duneland.

Four of the victims were Center Township residents; one, a Liberty Township resident; and one, a Jackson Township resident.

Three were in the 90-and-over age group; and one each in the 60-69, the 70-79, and the 80-89.

Four of the victims resided in long term care facilities (LTCFs).

To date, 152 Porter County residents have lost their lives to COVID-19. Deaths by township: in Duneland, 15 Liberty residents; 10 Westchester; and three Jackson. Outside of Duneland: 65 Center residents; 50 Portage; seven Union; one Boone; and one Washington.

Deaths by demographic: five in the 40-49; 12 in the 50-59; 21 in the 60-69; 34 in the 70-79; 44 in the 80-89; and 36 in the 90-and-over.

In the 23 days since Monday, Nov. 23, 65 residents have died. In the nine days since Monday, Dec. 7, 33 have died.

Also on Wednesday, PCHD reported 267 new COVID-19 cases over the 48-hour period Tuesday-Wednesday, to bring the total so far to 11,059. PCHD reported 85 cases on Tuesday (106 on Monday); and 182 on Wednesday.

PCHD also reported 35 hospitalizations on Wednesday, down from 39 on Monday.

Of Wednesday’s 35 hospitalizations, seven were residents of long term care facilities (LTCFs).

Of the new cases reported Tuesday-Wednesday, four were residents of a long term care facility, to bring the total so far to 504, up from 500 on Monday.

Of those 504 LTCF cases, seven were hospitalized on Wednesday, down from 11 on Monday; 88 have died, up from 84 on Monday.

As of Wednesday there were 16 active COVID-19 cases in Porter County LTCFs, unchanged from Monday.

PCHD reported 9,516 recoveries on Wednesday, unchanged from Monday. Total active cases in Porter County as of Wednesday, after subtracting the 9,516 recoveries and 152 deaths: 1,391, up from 1,130 on Monday.

-- New cases per 100,000 residents as of Wednesday: 521 (462 on Tuesday; 620 on Dec. 9).

-- Unique-individual positivity rate as of Dec. 8: 23.1 percent (23.8 percent on Dec. 7; 25.0 percent on Dec. 1).

-- All-test positivity rate as of Dec. 8: 11.9 percent (12.1 percent on Dec. 7; 14.7 percent on Dec. 1). Note: both positivity rates lag up to eight days due to Indiana State Department of Health reporting methods.

-- Westchester: 1,282 cases (1,247 on Monday). Active cases: 174 (139 on Monday).
