The theme of this
year’s Relay was “Finish the Fight!” With that in mind, the 2014 Relay for
Life of Duneland Committee has decided to finish the Relay to Finish the
Fight and host a picnic at Hawthorne Park in Porter this Thursday evening,
July 24, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m.
The 2014 American
Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Duneland was held on June 28. A storm
came through about 6 p.m. that evening, damaging several tents and many of
the on site fundraisers as well as this year’s silent auction, sending many
relayers home to safety.
The remaining
relayers were moved inside to the small gym and halls of the Chesterton
Middle School. It was decided by ACS staff on site and the committee to call
the Relay off after a Luminaria Ceremony in the halls.
The committee is
asking a donation of $5 per person or $10 per family for this picnic.
The committee will
provide hot dogs on the grill and potato chips. There will be sides and
desserts donated by Relay participants to share as well.
The silent auction
that was cut short at the Relay event will be completed and the evening will
end with the always touching Luminaria Ceremony.
Please join
together in the park to continue to raise money to finish the fight against
cancer!
