Relay for Life celebrates survivors and caregivers with special dinner

Back To Front Page

The American Cancer Societyís Relay For Life event is often defined as a celebration of life, symbolizing the courage and spirit of the more than 600,000 cancer survivors who, each year, proudly walk a survivor lap at more than 5,200 Relay For Life events worldwide.

In that spirit, the Relay for Life of Duneland invites all cancer survivors and their caregivers to a complimentary Survivors Dinner.

This yearís Relay for Life of Duneland will take place from noon until 6 a.m. this Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 2014, at the Chesterton Middle School Track, 651 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton.

The Relay will feature a Survivors Lap at 4:30 p.m. This inspiring lap honors the courage of all who have defeated cancer. Cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer) join together to walk the lap, unified in victory and in hope. It's an emotional example that Relay For Life is ensuring more lives are saved every year.

The Survivors Dinner will follow the Survivors Lap at 5:00 p.m. in the Chesterton Middle School Cafeteria, with food from some of Duneland Relayís generous community sponsors including Popolanoís, Sage Restaurant, Luke Oil of Burns Harbor, Lemon Tree Mediterranean Grill, Ruge Meats, AdvantaClean of NW Indiana, The Port Drive-In, Georgeís Gyros Spot, Sunrise Cafe, Valís Famous Pizzeria & Grinders, Little Caesarís, AJís Pizza, Pizza Hut, El Salto, Chiliís of Michigan City, Kimís Chocolates, Cake Heads and Jewel.

Survivors and caregivers are invited to stay for the poignant Luminaria Ceremony at dusk.

The atmosphere of Relay For Life is one of camaraderie and celebration, providing an opportunity for cancer survivors to pass the torch of hope on to those still battling cancer.
