In cooperation with
Chesterton Walgreens and the Town of Porter Parks Department, the Duneland
Seniors are hosting a drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic on Wednesday, September 23,
from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hawthorne Park, 500 Ackerman, in Porter.
This event is in
lieu of the annual Duneland Seniors Health Fair, usually held each August.
This is a mandatory
masked event in accordance with Indiana Governor Eric Holcolm's mandate
which has been extended for another month.
Members of the
Duneland Seniors and their spouses or significant other, are being offered
the opportunity to receive a preventative flu shot, given by Walgreens
pharmacists, without leaving their vehicle.
There is no
out-of-pocket charge for a flu shot for the seniors if they have Medicare or
private insurance. Seniors are reminded to please bring their Medicare and
insurance card with them. Seniors will be receiving a registration form in
the mail with their September newsletter and are encouraged to have that
form completed prior to arrival.
Any Duneland Senior
who needs additional registration forms are to call Rob Wojciechowski at
989-708-9016 so additional forms can be mailed to them.
There will be two
different flu shots available; one shot for those 65 years and older, the
other is for anyone under the age of 65.
their flu shot, seniors are required to remain on-site, in their vehicle,
for a 15-minute mandatory observation period so the pharmacist can monitor
for any potential adverse reactions.
If you would like
to receive your flu shot at our inaugural drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic, please
confirm by Friday, September 18, with either Cathy Ellis at 219-510-4861 or
Rondi Wightman at 219-617-1136.
September regular Duneland Senior Wednesday meetings are canceled. However,
there will be a drive-by collection of pop/beer can pull tabs and plastic
bottle caps at the Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic event. So it would be a good
time for seniors to empty their collected items.
Seniors age 55 or
over or retired can join the Duneland Seniors. A monthly newsletter has been
sent to the membership during this unprecedented Covid-19 quarantine.
If anyone has
questions and would like to join, please contact Jerry Flatz at
