Rebuilding Together Duneland work day is Saturday, October 3

Back To Front Page

Like most civic organizations, Rebuilding Together Duneland has had to make some major changes in response to Covid-19. The official 2020 Rebuild Day was originally scheduled for April 25, 2020, but had to be rescheduled.

After months of trying to figure out a plan to balance the safety of our volunteers with the needs of our homeowners, Rebuilding Together has decided to reschedule Rebuilding Day for Saturday, October 3.

Volunteers will take on some projects for homeowners in need, but there will be a greater focus on outdoor community projects. To make sure all involved are kept safe, and to abide by best practices set forth by the CDC, any interior work needed will be handled by contractors who will be provisioned and paid for by the organization. General volunteers will be assigned to outdoor projects.

There is still plenty of work to be done for those in need throughout our community. RTD is in need of volunteers for homesites and community projects. Please go to to submit an application. Volunteers can request which group or project they would like to work on.

Volunteers must be 14 years old or over. If a volunteer is under 18 a parentís authorization is required to register. If you have any questions while filling out the application please contact Melissa Jaeger, at or call (219) 926-3233.

Community volunteers will report directly to their assigned site on Rebuilding Day. Individually wrapped lunches, snacks, and water will be delivered on site for all volunteers. Each volunteer will receive a Rebuilding Together Duneland mask. Volunteers can request which group or project they would like to work on.

Rebuilding Together is about hard-working, compassionate people helping other people. Volunteers are the backbone of the organization. Volunteer groups are welcome and encouraged! Contact RTD to register early, create a group name, and assure that you will all be together on RTD work day Oct. 3.

The 2020 community project sites include the Chesterton Art Center, Coffee Creek Watershed, 4th Street Theater, Coffee Creek Park, Town of Porter/Hawthorne Park, and the YMCA Early Learning Center.
