League of America Porter County Chapter will hold The Read Ride bicycle tour
this coming Saturday, Sept. 28.

at Discovery Charter School, beginning at 9 a.m. Duneland Discovery Charter
School is at 800 Canonie, in Porter, just north of Rt. 20, near the
intersection with Tremont Road.

donation/biker will be used toward PCC's youth conservation educational
This tour's first
stop, at 10 a.m., will be at the National Park's Read House where a special
presentation, in honor of the memory of Dunes conservationist Charlotte
Read, will be held. Representatives of the NPS, PCC, Save the Dunes and
Shirley Heinze Land Trust will be there to celebrate the life-long efforts
of Charlotte and Herb Read to preserve the Dunes and the surrounding
features. Participants will get to see inside the house too before setting
off on a 22 mile round-trip journey to PCC's Carol Cook Wetland Overlook.
At the overlook,
bikers may rest, have lunch with Discovery Trackers 4-H Club and meet a live
owl with Humane Indiana Wildlife before making their return trip to Porter.
