Porter County sets another one day new-case record: 157 on Monday

The Porter County Health Department (PCHD) reported after deadline on Monday 157 new COVID-19 cases (88 new cases on Sunday), to bring the total so far to 4,122.

Those 157 new cases represent a new single-day record, exceeding the previous record of 114 set only 48 hours previously, on Saturday.

Of those 157 new cases, 106--or 68 percent--were in the younger demographics: 28 in the 0-20 (587 total); 28 in the 20-29 (751 total); 23 in the 30-39 (659 total); and 27 in the 40-49 (619 total).

The remaining 51 cases--or 32 percent--were in the older demographics: 27 in the 50-59 (654 total); 13 in the 60-69 (436 total); eight in the 70-79 (231 total); and three in the 80-89 (122 total). Total in the 90-and-over: 63.

LTCFs

Only one of the 157 new cases was reported in a long-term care facility, to bring the total so far to 222, up from 221 on Sunday.

Of those 222 cases, seven are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Sunday; 100 have recovered, up from 88 on Sunday; and 38 have died, unchanged from Sunday.

Right now there are 84 active COVID-19 cases in Porter County LTCFs.

Over the first six months of the pandemic--from March 17, when PCHD first started tracking COVID-19 numbers, to Oct. 16--a total of 119 cases was reported in LTCFs. In only 18 days, that number has grown by fully 103 new cases, or 87 percent.

Hospitalizations/Active Cases

Meanwhile, PCHD reported 24 hospitalizations on Monday, unchanged from Sunday.

Total active cases as of Monday, after subtracting 3,102 recoveries and 58 deaths: 962, down from 1,108 on Sunday.

Deaths

To date, 58 Porter County residents have succumbed to COVID-19. No additional deaths were reported on Monday.

Other Indicators

PCHD recently introduced other indicators on its COVID-19 dashboard: a seven-day rolling average of new cases per 100,000 residents; and a seven-day rolling average unique-individual positivity rate.

-- New cases per 100,000 residents as of Monday: 400 (340 on Sunday; 312 on Monday, Oct. 26).

-- Unique-individual positivity rate as of Oct. 25: 18.5 percent (21.1 percent on Oct. 24; 11.0 percent on Oct. 17). Note: the positivity rate lags up to eight days due to Indiana State Department of Health reporting methods.

Duneland Cases by Township

-- Westchester: 484 cases (466 on Sunday). Ninety-four active cases.

-- Liberty: 273 cases (262 on Sunday). Sixty-nine active cases.

-- Jackson: 72 cases (71 on Sunday). Ten active cases.

-- Pine: 16 cases (15 on Sunday). Three active cases.

Other Townships

-- Portage: 1,335 cases (1,287 on Sunday). 256 active cases.

-- Center: 1,161 (1,120 on Sunday). 340 active cases.
