The Porter County
Health Department was reporting this morning two more deaths from COVID-19
in the county, to bring the total so far to 17.
Both victims were
Center Township residents: one in the 70-79 demographic, the other in the
Center Township has
experienced a surge in COVID-19 cases over the last week, with 91 reported
today, compared to 60 on Monday, May 11: a spike of 52 percent over seven
days. Also: more than half of the current hospitalizations for COVID-19 in
the county, 15 of 28, are of Center Township residents.
Of the 17 Porter
County residents who have died of COVID-19, five were Dunelanders: four
Westchester Township residents and one Liberty Township resident.
Nine have been
Portage Township residents; three, Center Township residents.
Nine of the victims
were men; eight, women. Deaths by demographic: four 50-59; four 70-79; five
80-89; and four 90-and-over.
Department was also reporting 23 new COVID-19 cases over the last 72 hours,
bringing the total to 416, up from 393 on Friday. New cases by day: eight on
Saturday; six on Sunday; nine today.
patients are currently hospitalized (27 on Friday); while 240 have recovered
active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 159
(147 on Friday).
tests conducted in Porter County as of Sunday, according to the Indiana
State Department of Health: 3,047, up from 2,487 on Friday, an increase of
23 percent over the previous 48 hours.

-- Westchester: 31
cases, three deaths, two hospitalizations, 18 recoveries (unchanged from
Friday). Ten active cases.
-- Liberty: 21
cases (19 on Friday), one death (one), two hospitalizations (none), 12
recoveries (11). Eight active cases.
-- Jackson: one
case, one recovery.
-- Pine: three
cases, three recoveries.
Other hard hit
Township: 174 cases (169 on Friday), nine deaths (nine), six
hospitalizations (six), and 81 recoveries (78).

(50 on Friday), one death (one), eight hospitalizations (eight), and 30

cases (46 on Friday), no hospitalizations (none), and 39 recoveries (39).
These 47 cases include 40 confirmed at the Porter County Jail.
