An additional seven
inmates at the Porter County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19,
bringing the total to 40, the Porter County Sheriff’s Police reported after
deadline on Monday.
Most of those 40
patients are currently asymptomatic. Eleven of the 40 have recovered. Total
active cases at PCJ: 29.
Four jail officers
have also tested positive and are quarantining at home, PCSP said.
On the Porter
County Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard, PCJ inmates are included in
the case tally for Washington Township, where the facility is located. As of
Monday afternoon, the dashboard had not been updated to reflect the increase
of reported cases at the jail.
“We are still
quarantining and working closely with the Porter County Health Department
through all of this,” PCSP said. “We have no further information or comment
at this time.”
