The Porter County Community Foundation recently presented a $20,000 Community Fund grant check to the Shirley Heinze Land Trust in support of the Meadowbrook Capital Project. The Meadowbrook project includes the purchase of the former Meadowbrook Girl Scout Camp enabling Shirley Heinze to preserve much of the 74-acre property as wildlife habitat and a natural area open to the public. The organization also converted one of the onsite buildings into its administrative headquarters.

“We are fortunate to have local organizations such as Shirley Heinze that have the foresight to protect environmentally significant land for future generations,” said Barb Young, President of the Porter County Community Foundation. “We are proud to be able to help fund and support their effort to preserve this natural resource and we are grateful to our donors who enable us to invest in our community.”

Last year the Porter County Community Foundation was able to distribute more than $1.8 million in grants to nonprofit organizations and scholarships to local students.

The Foundation inspires giving and engages the community to improve lives in Porter County now and forever.
