Porter’s Independence Day Parade is just a few days away, The parade will
form up at Yost Elementary School on Saturday, July 4, at 11 a.m. and will
step off at noon, following a route along Wagner Road and Lincoln Street
through downtown Porter.
All kinds of entries with a patriotic theme are anticipated, including
marching units, performing groups, floats, and decorated vehicles. Prizes
will be awarded for the most inventive entries in a number of categories.
Parade applications are available at the Porter Town Hall, 303 Franklin
Street, and the Chesterton Duneland Chamber of Commerce, 220 Broadway. For

Vendors will be supplying a wide array of fare for the two-day Fourth of
July Festival in Hawthorne Park, July 4 and 5. There will be a variety of
food for sale, and vendors of all sorts will be hosting booths in the park.
Porter’s Fourth of July celebration is sponsored by the Friends of Porter, a
non-profit organization.
The celebration will include a Teen Music Night on Friday, July 3, and a
patriotic parade on Saturday, July 4. Festival grounds will be set up at
Hawthorne Park on Saturday and Sunday, July 4-5, with games, music, and a
variety of other family activities, as well as food and craft vendors.
Pat’s Liquors will be hosting an outdoor beer garden. The Chesterton Lions
Club will be doing a pancake breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday mornings,
and it will also sponsor the annual Turtle Race.
A new feature this year will be a bingo tent.
