The Porter County
Health Department is reporting a total of nine positive COVID-19 cases in
the county.
“Some of the
reported positives are receiving treatment in a healthcare facility and the
remainder are self-isolating at home,” the Health Department said in
statement released just before deadline today.
Reported positive
cases appear to be increasing quickly. On Wednesday morning the Health
Department reported a total of two cases in Porter County; then, on
Wednesday afternoon after deadline, it reported a total of four.
Those patients
self-isolating at home are being contacted twice daily by Health Department
staff to monitor for any deterioration in their condition. Citing privacy
laws, the Health Department is releasing no further information on the
patients.
“The Health
Department thoroughly investigates each case, tracking down not only close
contacts but any contact by finding out where the individual was when
symptoms started as well as who they were with,” the Health Department said.
“Health Department staff has had extensive training in communicable disease
investigation as well as ample resources provided by the state.”
Meanwhile, also
this morning, Franciscan Health Michigan City is confirming its first
in-patient case of COVID-19. No other details about this case were
available.
