New Porter County C19 cases spike, so do recoveries, active cases dip

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning 19 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, to bring the total in the county to 285, up from 266 on Monday.

Those 19 new cases represent a 7 percent increase over the last 24 hours. Most of the new cases--16 of them--were diagnosed in Portage Township.

No additional deaths were reported today. Eight Porter County residents have died to date of the virus. Four were Dunelanders: three from Westchester Township, two in the 80-89 demographic, one in the 50-59; and a Liberty Township resident in the 80-89. Three were Portage Township residents: one in the 70-79 and two in the 50-59. One was a Center Township resident in the 70-79. Five were men, three women.

Fourteen patients are currently hospitalized, compared to 16 on Monday; while 170 have recovered, compared to 149 on Monday, an increase of 14 percent.

Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 107, compared to 109 on Monday.

Total COVID-19 tests conducted in Porter County as of Monday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health: 1,986, up from 1,918, an increase of 3.5 percent over the previous 24 hours.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 24 cases (22 on Monday), three deaths (three), two hospitalizations (two), 14 recoveries (13). Seven active cases.

-- Liberty: 12 cases, one death, no hospitalizations, nine recoveries (unchanged from Monday). Two active cases.

-- Jackson: one case, one recovery. No active cases.

-- Pine: one case, one recovery. No active cases.

Other hard hit townships:

-- Portage Township: 121 cases (105 on Monday), three deaths (three), six hospitalizations (eight), and 77 recoveries (65).

-- Center: 44 cases (44 on Monday), one death (one), four hospitalizations (four), and 29 recoveries (25).

-- Washington: 43 cases, one hospitalization, and 14 recoveries (unchanged from Monday). These 42 cases include the 40 patients at Porter County Jail.

-- Union: 16 cases (16 on Monday), one hospitalization (one), and 11 recoveries (nine)
