A new all-access
geocaching trail is available at Coffee Creek Watershed Preserve in
Chesterton.
This 13 point of
interest, self-guided tour of the northwest corner of the preserve is on
brick pavers and boardwalk and is accessible for everyone, including those
in a wheelchair.
Brochures are
available at the informational sign near the entrance arch which offers
guidance on the 1.2 mile loop. Stops at interpretative signs offer
information on the wetlands, woodlands and prairies of the preserve. The
family friendly trail invites guests to explore, unwind and enjoy the wild
flowers, pond and creek within the preserve.
Guests will learn
how, working with neighbors in storm water management practices and low
impact development (LID), the preserve helps to keep the creek healthy.
Those using GPS
coordinates through geocaching.com and a free phone app, can use the clues
to find a final container or cache.
