The Porter County
Health Department was reporting this morning 28 new cases of COVID-19 over
the last 24 hours (24 new cases on Thursday), to bring the total so far to
1,278, up from 1,250 on Thursday.
Of those new cases,
11--or only 39 percent--were diagnosed among the younger demographics: two
in the 0-19 (152 total); one in the 20-29 (259 total), three in the 30-39
(192 total), and five in the 40-49 (210 total).
To date, COVID-19
has been diagnosed in 152 children or teens in Porter County, or 11.9
percent of all cases (12 percent of all cases on Thursday). When the
Chesterton Tribune first began tracking COVID-19 cases in the younger
demographics, on June 30, the 0-19 group accounted for 37 of the 715 total
cases at the time, or 5.2 percent.
patients are currently hospitalized, while 1,010 have recovered, unchanged
from Thursday. The Health Department announced late in July that it will be
updating recoveries only once a week. Total active cases right now in Porter
County: 227, up from 199 on Thursday.
deaths were reported today. To date, 41 Porter County residents have
succumbed to COVID-19. As the Chesterton Tribune has been reporting,
the surge in COVID-19 cases over the last six weeks has not been accompanied
by any significant increase in hospitalizations or deaths.
To date, 101 cases
of COVID-19 have been reported in Porter County’s long-term care facilities,
27 have died, no one is currently hospitalized, and 74 have recovered, all
unchanged from Thursday. The Health Department has not reported a new
COVID-19 case in a long-term facility here since June 30.
