New C19 cases in Porter County outpace new recoveries

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning 10 new cases of COVID-19 in the county over the last 24 hours, to bring the total so far to 384, up from 374 on Wednesday, an increase of 2.7 percent.

Twenty-four of those patients are currently hospitalized, compared to 21 on Wednesday; while 231 have recovered, up from 228 on Wednesday, an increase of 1.3 percent.

No new deaths were reported today.

To date 13 Porter County residents have died of COVID-19. Of those, five were Dunelanders: four Westchester Township residents, two in the 70-79 age group and two 80-89. A Liberty Township resident 80-89 has died as well.

Portage Township has seen seven of its residents die from COVID-19: three 50-59, one 70-79; one 80-89; and two 90-and-over.

One victim was a Center Township resident 70-79.

Eight of the victims were men. Five were women. Deaths by demographic: four 50-59; three 70-79; four 80-89; and two 90-and-over.

Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 140 (133 on Wednesday)

Total COVID-19 tests conducted in Porter County as of Wednesday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health: 2,649 up from 2,610 on Tuesday, an increase of 1.5 percent over the previous 24 hours.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 31 cases (31 cases on Wednesday), four deaths (four), one hospitalization (one), 18 recoveries (17). Nine active cases.

-- Liberty: 19 cases (18 on Wednesday), one death (one), no hospitalizations (none), 11 recoveries (11). Seven active cases.

-- Jackson: one case, one recovery.

-- Pine: three cases, no hospitalizations, one recovery (unchanged from Wednesday). Two active cases.

Other hard hit townships:

-- Portage Township: 167 cases (163 on Wednesday), seven deaths (seven), seven hospitalizations (seven), and 91 recoveries (90).

-- Center: 74 cases (70 on Wednesday), one death (one), 14 hospitalizations (11), and 35 recoveries (34).

-- Washington: 46 cases, no hospitalizations and 39 recoveries (unchanged from Wednesday). These 46 cases include the 40 patients at Porter County Jail.

-- Union: 18 cases, two hospitalization, and 14 recoveries (unchanged from Wednesday)
