The Porter County
Health Department was reporting this morning 29 new COVID-19 cases over the
last 24 hours (seven new cases on Wednesday), to bring the total so far to
1,403, up from 1,374 on Wednesday.
Of those 29 new
cases, 18--or 62 percent--were diagnosed among the younger demographics: six
in the 0-19 (168 total); two in the 20-29 (280 total); four in the 30-39
(206 total); and six in the 40-49 (236 total).
According to the
records of the Chesterton Tribune, between July 1 and Thursday, Aug. 6,
fully 406 of the 529 new cases in Porter County were diagnosed in persons
under 50: or 77 percent.
However, over the
last seven days--since Thursday, Aug. 6--that proportion has dropped
precipitously. Of the 153 new cases reported in that period, only 87 were
diagnosed in persons under 50: or 57 percent. That fact would seem to
indicate that the surge of new cases in the younger demographics in July has
begun to spread into the older and more vulnerable population.
Department was also reporting one new hospitalization today, to bring the
total of those currently hospitalized to two, up from one on Wednesday. The
number of recoveries reported today remained unchanged from Wednesday:

deaths were reported today. To date, 41 Porter County residents have
succumbed to COVID-19.
So far, 101 cases
of COVID-19 have been reported in Porter County's long-term care facilities,
27 have died, no one is currently hospitalized, and 74 have recovered, all
unchanged from Tuesday. The Health Department has not reported a new
COVID-19 case in a long-term facility here since June 30.

according to the Health Department:

are the number of individuals who get tested and have a positive test
