Thirty-three inmates at the Porter County Jail have now been diagnosed with COVID-19, following additional testing conducted last week.

Of the 30 inmates who were most recently tested, 20 were positive, according to a statement released by the Porter County Sheriff’s Police after deadline on Monday.

All 33 are on “quarantine status” and all reported to be in “stable condition,” with none showing a fever.

In addition, two jail officers have tested positive. They are currently quarantining at home.

“How the virus originated in our facility is still under investigation,” the PCSP said. “Sheriff Reynolds is extremely proud of the jail officers and medical staff who are working on the front lines of this situation. They are doing an outstanding job. We continue to work closely with the Indiana State Health Department and the Porter County Health Department. As soon as we have more details, we will send out an additional release. We have no further comment or information at this time.”

The Health Department has added the 33 COVID-19 cases at PCJ to its Washington Township tally, as the jail is located in Washington Township.
