Back To Front Page

Island 49, a Jimmy Buffett style rock band will perform, from 4-6 p.m., at the Grand Opening of the Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, Sept. 21. Pictured are guitarist and vocalist Doug Lins, singer Karen Lins on baritone ukulele, Mark Shelhart on island percussion, Scott Shelhart on bass, and Jim Rue on drums.

The Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary will hold its Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, from 3-6 p.m. A screech owl, an opossum, a box turtle, and a painted turtle, all animals common in the sanctuary, will be on view. The resident sandhill cranes will likely be close by as they aren't shy with people.

Chris Joll, a science teacher at CHS, will discuss various insects found at the sanctuary and will lead insect hikes for anyone interested. Susan and Bonnie Swarner will offer crafts for kids. Several people will speak in the introduction at 3:00 p.m.

Following the remarks, there will be music and a food truck, rides on the argo, and hikes through the sanctuary.
