The Duneland YMCA Seniors were pleased to celebrate Marguerite Domsic’s 100th birthday recently at a party in her honor in the Community Room. They provided an amazing carry-in luncheon in Marguerite’s honor, and a beautiful birthday cake was donated by Symphony of Chesterton.

Marguerite has lived in Chesterton for more than fifty years. Prior to moving here, she lived in Gary. She spent her career working as a librarian in both communities. Marguerite has been a Y member for many years. She started participating in exercise classes when Florence Dresh was instructing the Building Fit Friends class in the 90’s. Marguerite still comes to Building Fit Friends three times a week and stays socially active, attending the many activities offered at the Y’s Senior Center.

“I’m thankful to have been a regular part of the Duneland Y for so many years,” Domsic said. “I’ve met so many friends here. Regular exercise is an important part of helping me stay active and healthy at my age.”

The Duneland Family YMCA Senior Center is open Monday-Friday, from 10:15 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and offers a wide variety of activities such as “Drawing Fun,” bingo, book reviews, movies and more.

Exercise classes designed specifically for active older adults include Building Fit Friends, Silver Sneakers, Silver Sneakers Cardio Circuit and Zumba Gold. Everyone is welcome in the Senior Center, so feel free to stop by the Y and get involved. Make new friends, stay fit and have fun!

The YMCA, at 215 Roosevelt St., is open 7 days a week. For more information about membership, programs or services, stop in, call, or visit online at www.dunelandymca.org.

The Duneland Y, a United Way of Porter County Partner Agency, has been serving the Duneland communities for more than 50 years, focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
