Local groups' members aid Free the Girls to battle sex trade

The Soroptimist International Midwest Region, will meet on Friday, October 23, at 6 p.m., at the Free The Girls facility, 1552 Pioneer Trail, Chesterton.

Soroptimist International is a volunteer service organization for business and professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls around the world through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Free the Girls, a volunteer organization which partners with established after-care facilities, provides an opportunity for sex trafficking survivors to build their own business selling second-hand clothing while going to school, establishing a house, and caring for their families.

The meeting Friday will be a hands on project to sort and pack bra inventory for shipment.

Free the Girls National Director Melissa Watson will welcome Region Governor Vicky Hicks, District Director Kris Armstrong and members from five states to this event.

Dinner and information about Free the Girls will be presented before those gathered sort and pack bras for shipment.
