Kickoff Tuesday for 2014 Relay for Life

Back To Front Page

On Tuesday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m., the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Duneland will officially get underway as event volunteers and participants gather at Duneland Resale, 801 Broadway, Chesterton, for a kickoff rally to launch fundraising efforts for the year. Food will be provided.

Although the Relay For Life of Duneland is several months away, now is the time to get involved. Everyone is invited to attend the kickoff celebration to learn more about the upcoming Relay For Life and how to become part of an exciting overnight event that will help pave the way to a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

Relay For Life is the Society’s signature event, dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight cancer. Teams of family, friends and co-workers camp out overnight, taking turns walking the track. During the event, participants and visitors have a chance to celebrate the victory of area cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap; remember those who have lost their battle to the disease during the poignant Luminaria Ceremony; and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony that gives everyone a chance to proclaim their way of taking action against the disease.

Donations can be made to this local Relay For Life event by visiting relayforlife.org/dunelandin. Community members also can start or join a team by visiting this site.

The 2014 Relay For Life of Duneland, featuring a Hawaiian beach party theme, will take place June 28 and 29 at Chesterton Middle School.

For more information on how to get involved or about the kickoff event, please contact staff partner Janet Wartman at (219)614-3282, or janet.wartman@cancer.org
