The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 1,253 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours (1,051 new cases on Thursday), to bring the total so far to 72,254, up from 71,015 on Thursday.

Those 1,253 cases represent a new single-day high, breaking the previous record of 1,051 set only yesterday, Thursday, Aug. 6, a 19-percent increase in only 24 hours.

ISDH was also reporting 10 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (six additional deaths on Thursday), to bring the total to date to 3,030, up from 3,020 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, ISDH is no longer reporting total cases and total deaths in nursing homes.

Marion County has the most reported cases, 15,503 (15,322); and the most deaths, 725 (723). Lake County has reported 7,447 cases (7,343) and 274 deaths (274), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 883 cases and 30 deaths (869 and 30).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 202 presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Thursday.
