The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 1,051 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours (740 new cases on Wednesday), to bring the total so far to 71,015, up from 69,975 on Wednesday.

Those 1,051 represent a new single-day high, breaking the previous record of 976 set on July 1.

ISDH was also reporting six additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (12 additional deaths on Wednesday), to bring the total to date to 3,020, up from 3,014 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, ISDH is no longer reporting total cases and total deaths in nursing homes.

Marion County has the most reported cases, 15,322 (15,152); and the most deaths, 723 (723). Lake County has reported 7,343 cases (7,222) and 274 deaths (273), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 869 cases and 30 deaths (850 and 29).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 202 presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Wednesday.
