Sunday, December 4, will provide two events to help get into the holiday spirit. First, join Porter Fire Department and Auxiliary from noon to 4:00 p.m., at 550 W. Beam Street in Porter, for the fourth annual Open House.

This fun-filled, free family event will feature a Firefighter Meet & Greet, crafts for kids and an indoor bounce house. Fire trucks, rescue boats and other apparatus will be on display. Try on firefighter gear.

Harley, the Fire Rescue K9 will welcome guests. Santa will be making an early visit, so bring along a camera.

Please consider those less fortunate this Christmas season and bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots collection.

Non-perishable food items for local families will also be collected. For additional information contact Jay Craig, Deputy Chief at 219/926-1226.

Then, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. join Bud’s Buddies at the Hageman Library, 100 Francis Street, Porter, for Porter Lights of Love Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. This free, family-friendly tree lighting ceremony will fill children of all ages with excitement and wonder.

Guests will then gather inside the library for a brief recognition ceremony. Names of all honorees will be read aloud. Immediately following the recognition ceremony, Duneland’s own ‘Banjo Bob’ will lead a sing-a-long of holiday favorites. Refreshments will be served.

Please join in at the corner of Francis and Franklin Streets is illuminated with a holiday glow.
