The 2015 Porter County Heart Walk will be held this Saturday, September 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Coffee Creek Center, Chesterton.

The Heart Walk encourages community members to enjoy more physical activity while also raising critical funds. Money raised from Heart Walk comes back to benefit the Northwest Indiana region.

The Porter County Heart Walk is one of two Heart Walks held annually in the region; the other is the Lake County Heart Walk, which took place last weekend. More than 1,000 walkers will help raise over $500,000 and bring attention to the importance of heart health.

The walk will feature a non-competitive one-, two-, and three-mile walk, free family-friendly health festival with entertainment, educational resources on heart health and screenings. Guest speakers: 2015 Northwest Indiana Executive Heart Walk Chairman, Dale Heinz, Senior Division Manager, Primary Operations at ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor and Heart Walk Champion, Wright Alcorn, Vice President of Operations at Methodist Hospitals.

A special piano performance by Logan Castleton will showcase the work of the American Heart Association.

Logan was just 10 days old when he had his first open heart surgery and has had over a dozen surgeries since then. Logan participated in his first heart walk 10 years ago at Coffee Creek Ð being pulled by his parents in a little red wagon. Now he is 11 years old and is an accomplished pianist having performed for Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Danny DeVito and many other stars.

The work of local sponsors ArcelorMittal and Methodist Hospitals, as well as volunteers and donors who have supported the mission of the American Heart Association for over a decade and helped fund medical research, breakthroughs and advancements are part of the reason Logan is able to play the piano and celebrate with fellow survivors as a healthy and strong 11 year old boy.
