Eleventh C19 death reported in County

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning another death from COVID-19 in the county.

The victim was a resident of Portage Township in the 80-89 demographic.

COVID-19 deaths in Porter County now total 11. Of those, four were Dunelanders: three from Westchester Township, two in the 80-89 demographic, one in the 50-59; and a Liberty Township resident in the 80-89.

Five other Portage Township residents have also died: three in the 50-59, one in 70-79, and one in the 90-and-over.

One was a Center Township resident in the 70-79.

Seven of the victims were men. Four were women. Deaths by demographic: four in the 50-59; two in the 70-79; four in the 80-89; and one in the 90-and-over.

The Health Department was also reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, to bring the total in the county to 311, up from 302 on Thursday.

Those nine new cases represent a 3-percent increase over the last 24 hours.

Fifteen patients are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Thursday; while 189 have recovered, also unchanged from Thursday.

Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 111, compared to 103 on Thursday.

Total COVID-19 tests conducted in Porter County as of Thursday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health: 2,204, up from 2,090, an increase of 5.4 percent over the previous 24 hours.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 28 cases (25 on Thursday), three deaths (three), two hospitalizations (two), 14 recoveries (14). Eleven active cases.

-- Liberty: 15 cases, one death, no hospitalizations, nine recoveries (unchanged from Thursday). Five active cases.

-- Jackson: one case, one recovery. No active cases.

-- Pine: three cases (one on Thursday), no hospitalizations (none) one recovery (one). Two active cases.

Other hard hit townships:

-- Portage Township: 132 cases (129 on Thursday), six deaths (five), six hospitalizations (six), and 78 recoveries (78).

-- Center: 50 cases (49 on Thursday), one death (one), five hospitalizations (five), and 29 recoveries (29).

-- Washington: 43 cases, one hospitalization, and 32 recoveries (unchanged from Thursday). These 43 cases include the 40 patients at Porter County Jail.

-- Union: 16 cases, one hospitalization, and 11 recoveries (unchanged from Tuesday)
