The Duneland Family YMCA has partnered with the Chesterton Fire Department and Porter Regional Hospital to offer a Free Car Seat Fitting Clinic on June 26-27.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA); Car crashes are a leading killer of children 1 to 12 years old in the United States. The best way to protect them in the car is to put them in the right seat, at the right time, and use it the right way.

John Jarka, Deputy Fire Chief, Chesterton Fire Department, shared, We at Chesterton Fire have four nationally certified technicians to check child restraint seats. We learned in our training that up to 90 percent of all child restraint seats are in one way or another installed improperly.

This free car seat fitting clinic is organized to educate participants on which seat is right for their child and how to use the seat safely. The clinic is scheduled for June 26 8-10:30 a.m. at the Duneland Y and June 27 from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Ys child care facility located within Chesterton Middle School Entrance #8.

As a nonprofit organization, the Duneland Family YMCA believes it is their social responsibility to establish partnerships within the Duneland community that are beneficial to the safety of children and their families.

The Duneland Family YMCA is located at 215 Roosevelt Street in Chesterton. Please call (219) 926-4204 with any questions.
