YMCA has education and development programs for children ages 6 weeks to 5
years. More than a simple day care, the Y’s Early Learning Academy is the
best of what research and common sense tell us kids need: healthy
beginnings, positive interaction with caring adults, age appropriate
learning activities and plenty of time for fun and making friends. At the Y,
helping kids and families thrive is at the heart of our mission to serve.
Kayla Lee was
recently appointed as the Early Learning Coordinator, and says she feels
blessed to have the opportunity to help make lifelong impressions on
countless young lives in the Duneland community. She has been working for
the Y in the preschool childcare program since she was 15, when she became a
child care assistant and then as the lead teacher for the three and
four-year-old classes. She graduated from Purdue with a BA in Social Work
and also has had behavior modification training.
“I love going to
work each day. Here at the Y, we are a close-knit family and we truly care
about each other and the children we work with every day. As early childhood
educators we can ensure students get off to the best start in life. I am
excited to be able to assist our childcare staff as they help children
develop social and behavioral skills as well as learning tools using The
Creative Curriculum and following Indiana’s Paths To Quality Guidelines for
early care programs,” said Lee. “Paths To Quality Guidelines are Indiana’s
Child Care Quality Rating and Improvement System. Research shows that
children’s experiences play a significant role in the way their brains
develop, and the way a child’s brain develops plays a significant role in
the future success of the child. That is why high-quality early care and
education programs are essential to all children. At the Duneland Y Early
Learning Academy, we strive to meet these guidelines and provide the best
program for our children.”
The Duneland Y
Early Learning Academy is located at 651 W. Morgan Ave., Chesterton. The
program is available Monday through Friday between 5:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Children are provided snacks and lunch each day. Enrollment is available
full time for infants, toddlers and preschool.
