Duneland Resale will be celebrating "6 Years at 801 Broadway" during regular business hours on Thursday, September 17, with special sales and surprises. Gift certificates for adults and small gifts for children will be awarded during the fun celebration.

Duneland Resale began March 24, 2001, on Calumet Avenue in Chesterton, as a mission project. On April 4, 2002, they were incorporated as a community based, not-for-profit organization, and recognized by the IRS as a charity. They soon outgrew that location and moved across the street to the corner of Calumet and Wabash.

Their next move was to 534 Broadway where they stayed for five years. Then in September, 2009, after extensive remodeling by hundreds of volunteers, Duneland Resale celebrated a grand opening at their present location, 801 Broadway.

Duneland Resale is a God-centered, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping others. Quality merchandise, which is donated is recycled and sold. Proceeds are used to assist service agencies, missions, and community needs. Presently 85 volunteers representing more than 20 area churches, give their time to make this mission a success. Putting "Faith Into Action" is Duneland Resale's motto, and that is done on a daily basis through all the missions supported.

However, Duneland Resale could not be this successful without the help of the very generous people of Duneland who really contribute to the shop’s success with donations and also as shoppers.

Not only has Duneland Resale given money and in-kind donations throughout the years, but also many of the volunteers join together in other community endeavors. Resale volunteers had a team to support Duneland's Relay for Life. They also have recruited teams for Rebuilding Together-Duneland and sponsored the Alzheimer's Walk in Michigan City. Resale volunteers belong to the "Second Chance Singers" and participate in the Chesterton Advent Festival every December.

Close to 1,000 copies of the book, A Miracle In Progress, have been sold. This book is a celebration of the incredible journey of Duneland Resale as volunteers and shoppers share their stories.

More than five years ago, Duneland Resale expanded their mission by sharing the building with both the Westchester Neighborhood Food Pantry and the Duneland Medical Equipment Loan Closet. Duneland Resale provides this space free of charge.

Duneland Resale accepts all donations during regular store hours Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

New volunteer orientation is always on the last Saturday of each month and anyone interested in learning more is encouraged to attend.
