The Duneland Medical Equipment Loan Closet is open for residents of the
Duneland Community.
Anyone living in Westchester, Liberty, Jackson or Pine Townships may use the
equipment for up to three months. To date the closet has walkers, a
wheelchair, commode, crutches and canes.
“We will not be carrying hospital beds because of insurance liabilities,”
said Joan Knibbs, founder of the organization.
According to Knibbs, Michigan City has had an organization providing this
type of service since 1935. Its volunteers have been a help in getting the
local organization up and running.
“Our equipment is given to us and then we recycle it,” Knibbs said.
“We would welcome any equipment you have in your attic, garage or basement,”
she added.
However, Knibbs said wooden equipment cannot be used. Crutches must be
metal. Again, the reason is for liability.
Contact Knibbs at 926-4278 to either borrow or to donate equipment.
