Northwest Indiana’s improv comedy group is offering 6-session “Improv 101” class for adults beginning Sunday, April 22, 2018.

The class will meet at Top Fuel Crossfit, 2590 Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383, on Sunday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Class will meet on April 22, April 29, May 6, May 20, June 3 and, June 10.

Our students get so much more out of improv than they expected,” said Bob Craig, the director of Disposable Theatre and course instructor. “Everyone benefits from the skills and the added confidence that comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying something new. It’s not just for comedians and actors. It’s really life skills, and it is a lot of fun.”

Disposable Theatre has two performance groups, Disposable Theatre and Same Difference, and a third group will premiere this month. The cast members come from all walks of life and all of them have taken this class.

The course will cover the basics of improvisation; creating scenes, building your understanding of improvisation and performance games and stimulating your creativity. There will be more advanced classes offered in the future and there may be performance opportunities with Disposable Theatre’s teams.

Improv is a valuable skill for any career, from the world of sales to the comedy stage. Becoming more confident in front of groups, learn to think on your feet and develop a more humorous outlook on life, improvisation can help you be better at whatever you do. Open up to the world of possibilities that improv can offer, live in the moment, accept life as it comes and be ready for anything.

Former students and performers have gone on to train and perform at The Second City, IO, with Jimmy Carrane, at the Columbia College Comedy Studies Program and others. Same Difference won the coveted “Big Boss” award at the 2017 Comedy Criminals Improv Competition in Bristol, Indiana and DT3, the long-form improv group, has performed at the Chicago Improv Festival.

Craig has been studying and performing improv comedy for more than 25 years and trained at The Second City and IO in Chicago with Del Close, Adam McKay, Matt Besser, Don DePollo, Martin DeMaat among others.

Tuition for the workshop is $175 and class size in each class is limited to a minimum of twelve and a maximum of 18 students. This class is for adults (college-age and up) only please.
