COVID claims three more Porter County lives

Three more Porter County residents succumbed to COVID-19 over the weekend, the Porter County Health Department (PCHD) was reporting.

Two victims were Portage Township residents; and one, a Pleasant Township resident.

Two were in the 80-89 demographic; one, in the 70-79 demographic.

Two resided in long term care facilities (LTCFs).

To date, 156 Porter County residents have lost their lives to COVID-19. Deaths by atownship: in Duneland, 15 Liberty residents; 10 Westchester; and three Jackson. Outside of Duneland: 66 Center residents; 52 Portage; seven Union; one Boone; and one Washington; and one Pleasant.

Deaths by age group: five in the 40-49; 12 in the 50-59; 21 in the 60-69; 35 in the 70-79; 47 in the 80-89; and 36 in the 90-and-over.

In the 27 days since Monday, Nov. 23, 69 residents have died. In the 13 days since Monday, Dec. 7, 37 have died.

New Cases

PCHD was also reporting 449 new cases over the 72-hour period Friday-Sunday, to bring the total so far to 11,651.

PCHD reported 175 new cases on Friday (143 on Thursday); 97 on Saturday; and 177 on Sunday.

As of Sunday, PCHD was putting the 0-19 demographic at 1.6K cases; the 20-29 at 2.1K; the 30-39 at 1.8K; the 40-49 at 1.9K; the 50-59 at 1.8K; and the 60-69 at 1.3K.

The other demographic totals as of Sunday: 70-79, 695 cases (670 on Thursday); 80-89, 369 cases (361); and 90-and-over, 148 (146).

Hospitalizations

PCHD also reported 29 hospitalizations on Sunday, down from 37 on Thursday. Of Sunday’s 29 hospitalizations, six were residents of long term care facilities (LTCFs).

LTCFs

Of the new cases reported Friday-Sunday, 13 were residents of a long term care facility, to bring the total so far to 519, up from 506 on Thursday. Of those cases, six were hospitalized on Sunday, down from seven on Thursday; 400 have recovered, unchanged from Thursday; and 90 have died, up from 88 on Thursday.

As of Sunday there were 29 active COVID-19 cases in Porter County LTCFs, up from 18 on Thursday.

Active Cases

PCHD reported 9,516 recoveries on Sunday, unchanged from Thursday.

Total active cases in Porter County as of Sunday, after subtracting the 9,516 recoveries and 156 deaths: 1,979, up from 1,533 on Thursday.

-- New cases per 100,000 residents as of Sunday: 566 (531 on Saturday; 515 on Dec. 13).

-- Unique-individual positivity rate as of Dec. 12: 22.0 percent (21.7 percent on Dec. 11; 25.2 percent on Dec. 5).

-- All-test positivity rate as of Dec. 12: 10.6 percent (10.5 percent on Dec. 11; 13.8 percent on Dec. 5). Note: both positivity rates lag up to eight days due to Indiana State Department of Health reporting methods.

-- Westchester: 1,345 cases (1,291 on Thursday). Active cases: 237 (183 on Thursday).

-- Liberty: 673 cases (644). Active cases: 109 (80)

-- Jackson: 231 cases (225). Active cases: 33 (27).

-- Pine: 64 cases (60). Active cases: 17 (13).

Other Townships

-- Portage: 3,609 cases (3,497 on Thursday). Active cases: 538 (428).
