The Porter County Community Foundation recently offered an additional $10,000 match for the Jo Winey Babcock Memorial Endowment. The period to qualify for the $10,000 in matching fund expires on March 31, 2018. If this new goal is reached, the Jo Winey Babcock Memorial Endowment will total $120,000. The principal of the endowment fund can never be spent, but the earnings from the endowment will help families participate in Y programs and services for years to come.

Jo Winey Babcock, a former Duneland teacher and YMCA board member, was passionate about helping youth in the Duneland communities grow into strong adults. She assisted the Duneland YMCA in this effort for more than 30 years, and it was an integral part of Jo’s life. The love of the Duneland communities, and all those whose lives Jo Winey Babcock touched has been apparent in the initial outpouring of support to create a permanent and lasting memorial endowment to her memory.

The Y was chosen to participate in the Porter County Community Foundation’s Agency Matching Grant Program to raise $50,000. Through this unique opportunity the Jo Winey Memorial Endowment will receive an additional $1 for every $1 raised in donations. Due to the overwhelming support and generosity from those who knew and loved Jo, community donations have reached the initial goal.

Please help reach the new endowment goal by donating to this perpetual tribute to Jo Winey Babcock. Each gift is tax deductible. Checks made payable to the Porter County Community Foundation (PCCF) can be dropped or mailed to the Duneland Family YMCA, 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton IN 46304.

For information, contact Y CEO Dave Kasarda at (219) 926-4204. The Duneland Family YMCA is a charitable nonprofit focusing on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
