CMS remains closed for bat removal

Back To Front Page

The Duneland Schools are reporting that Chesterton Middle School will remain closed today, Wednesday, Aug., 26, while Shamrock Wildlife Removal works on capturing bats that apparently took up residence at CMS over the summer.

The text of the statement sent to parents in full:

“Although the bat removal and sealing of potential entry points is progressing well, we will need to close Chesterton Middle School on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 for all students and staff. Tomorrow, CMS students will continue to participate in remote learning. As a reminder, a determination on reopening will be made on a day by day basis as we work closely with the wildlife removal contractor. Decisions will be made by 1 p.m. each day. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Duneland Public Relations Director Bridget Martinson reported as of yesterday morning that the bats are being captured alive and three had been taken so far.
