Clip and save Dunes State Park programming

Indiana Dunes State Park is beginning slowly to re-introduce programming but with COVID-19 precautions. Clip and save the following schedule of events

All programs are free, unless otherwise noted, after paying the park entrance fee. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. All programs will be held outdoors and start at the Nature Center; if the weather is inclement, then the event will be cancelled. Guests are encouraged to practice social-distancing by staying at least six feet away from others. There will be no touching of props or animals.

-- 2 p.m. Monday, June 22 and July 6: Ant Lion Safari. Join the naturalist for this short discovery walk looking for the unique lions of the Dunes.

-- 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2 and 16: High Dunes Hike. Strap on your hiking shoes for this one-mile hike to the tallest dune in Indiana and learn about its natural and cultural history along the way.

-- 2 p.m. Monday, June 29, and Wednesday, July 15: Wetland Wonder. See up close what small plants and animals call the parkís wetlands home on this short accessible hike to Dunes Creek and the marsh.

-- 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, and Monday, July 6: JD Marshall Shipwreck History Hike: Join this one-mile flat accessible hike to learn about one of Lake Michiganís shipwrecks.

-- 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10 and 17: Critter Feeding: Stop by the Nature Center to watch its reptiles and amphibians eat live meals.

-- 8:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19 (Senses), and Sunday, June 26 (Owls): Night Hikes. Join the naturalists as we go on an easy walk to awaken our senses as nocturnal animals do or to call in owls.

Sand Sculpture Contest

Dunes State Park will also be holding its 23rd annual Sand Sculpture Contest on Saturday, July 18. The registration table opens at 9 a.m. but groups may begin as early as 7 a.m. Judging starts around 12 p.m. with awards at 1 p.m. Whether you build or not, come vote for your favorite in the Peopleís Choice category. Park volunteers will be judging for the funniest, most creative, and most thematic. All awards presented are provided by Friends of Indiana Dunes.

Weekend Natural Roving Table Locations

Look for Dunes State Parkís naturalists at pop-up tables.

-- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, June 27, July 4, and July 11, at the beach parking lot; and 2 to 3 p.m. at Mount Tom.

-- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, June 28, July 5, and July 12, and July 19, at the intersection of Trails 9 and 10; and 2 to 3 p.m. at the Nature Center.
