Children's art contest to highlight community in challenging time

The Chesterton Art Center and the Chesterton Branding Leadership Team (CBLT) are partnering to support the downtown Chesterton business community. They have developed a two-part plan that allows everyone an opportunity to participate and collaborate during these very challenging times.

The first component of the plan is a children's art contest. Children, in age groups 4-7 and 8-15, are invited to visually interpret the phrase #ChestertonStrong. All the details about entering and a template for their work can be found on the "Visit Chesterton" Facebook page.

Images of their artwork are to be emailed directly to There is no fee to enter. The deadline for entering is Friday, April 17, by midnight.

Online voting will occur on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, and the winners will be announced on Monday, April 20. The two winning artists will receive a full week of a Chesterton Art Center Summer Art Camp of their choice. Summer Art Camp information can be found at

For the second component of the plan, one of the winning designs will be turned into #ChestertonStrong yard signs so that the community can show its support for downtown Chesterton businesses. Residents can purchase yard signs for their homes and businesses through a link on the "Visit Chesterton" Facebook page.

Funds raised by this project will be collected by the Chesterton Branding and Leadership Team and go directly back into supporting Chestertonís local businesses. The CBLT is a group of local business leaders and visionaries whose goal is to promote local businesses and further develop the downtown. Yard signs will be locally produced as a donation from Zeno Signs and Graphics. Residents may begin making donations and sign reservations now through a link on the Visit Chesterton Facebook page.
