The Crisis Center in Lake County is celebrating its 40 year anniversary, a
milestone for its co-founder, Shirley Caylor of Chesterton.
The Crisis Center extends a number of its programs into Porter County. One
of these is the Safe Place program, which Caylor expanded into Porter County
in 2009. Today, there are now 111 public locations that display the Safe
Place sign, indicating to youth that the site is a safe place to turn to in
times of crisis.
The Hilltop Neighborhood House in Valparaiso recently became the latest to
participate in Safe Place.
Caylor, a member of the Porter County United Way Agency Executives, was
recently honored by Northwest Indiana Times as one of the 2005 Women of
Merit.
