Chesterton police and fire departments to host gym activities for youth at YMCA

The Chesterton Police and Fire Departments have partnered with the Duneland Family YMCA to coordinate gym activities for area youth, ages 11-17.

Beginning Monday, March 3, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., the Y will make a gym available every Monday through Thursday for activities such as dodgeball, kickball, basketball and flag football. The program is open to the community, and free to all who participate. Youth will have an opportunity to get to know the men and women who protect the community, and they'll have a great time trying to outscore them!

"The goal is to provide positive recreational opportunities for all youth that are fun, educational, assist in developing self-esteem, promote social responsibility and encourage health and physical development. The kids are likely to make new friends and develop some new skills, but it's not so much about winning and losing. It's about having a great time," said Emily Hoge, Duneland YMCA Membership Coordinator.

The Duneland Family YMCA is a charitable nonprofit that focuses on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility and is a United Way of Porter County Partner Agency.
