Chesterton Lions' pancakes, Turtle Derby and Duck Race at Family 4th Fest

On Thursday, July 4, in conjunction with the Family 4th Fest at Hawthorne Park in Porter, Chesterton Lions Club members will be cooking up a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast from 7-11:00 a.m. The cost is: $7.00 and includes three pancakes, two sausages, and choice of coffee or orange juice. Additional pancakes and sausage are available for $1.00 each. The Lions Club pancake griddles will be set up in front of the Hawthorne Park Community Building, which will be open for indoor dining. Proceeds will support Lions Club projects in the Duneland community.

The 80th annual Turtle Derby will be held at 11:00 a.m. on the basketball courts in Hawthorne Park. The turtles, with a lot of encouragement from their owners, will be vying for trophies and prizes. Kids are to register their turtles between 10 and 11 a.m. The first heat will start at 11 a.m. No snapping turtles, please!

At Noon, the winning lucky duckies will be pulled in the 21st annual Duck Race. Tickets are $5 each or 3/$10. 34 winners will share $2,700 in cash prizes. Tickets will be on sale throughout the morning, right up until race time. Winner need not be present.

Bring the family out early to enjoy a yummy pancake and sausage Breakfast, from 7 to 11 a.m. before the 9 a.m. parade, and Turtle Derby at 11 a.m. Then, stay to root for the winning ducks in the Duck Race at Noon!
