Camp FUNset still has openings; County parks have many offerings

Camp FUNset has a limited number of spots open for young day campers.

Camp FUNset continues with the following Theme weeks. Create-Art -- July 8 to 11. A special week is planned for aspiring artists.

Wild Water- July 15 -- 18. Investigate wetlands and creatures then get soaked in a giant water relay!

Super Hero Films -- July 22 -- 25. Act, Direct and Produce your own movies!

Wilderness Camp -- July 29 -- Aug. 1. Signature Camp! Build debris huts in the woods!

Camp Reunion Family Camp Out -- Aug. 3. Campers and their families are invited to bring their tents and join this end of summer celebration overnight.

Registrations for Camp FUNset will be taken at the Parks and Recreation office, at 155 Indiana Ave., Suite 304, Valparaiso, Ind., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cash or Check only.

Go FishIN at Brookdale; Saturday, July 20, 1-3 p.m. Free. Learn to tie knots, prepare a hook, proper casting and safety in and around the water. All fishing equipment is included.

Meditation Workshop; Saturday, July 13, 2-4 p.m. Cost $15. At Brincka Cross Gardens. Join instructor Cynthia Smith to learn the ins and outs of meditation, which will focus on both the mind and body.

Restorative Retreat at Brincka Cross Gardens; Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost $50. Join instructor Cynthia Smith for a day long restorative retreat that will focus on both the mind and body. The day will include a light, healthy lunch.

Young Artists at Sunset Hill Farm; Saturday, July 13, 1-2 p.m. Cost $8. Theme: Summertime. Youth painting instruction for all skill levels where the focus of the project is different each month. Participants will create and take home their project the same day.

Meet the Animals at Sunset Hill Farm; Friday, July 12,. 9:30-10:30 a.m. Families are invited to stop by Sunset Hill Farm and meet the animals and their caretakers. A family hike will follow. Join Naturalist on a short hike around Sunset Hill Farm.

Family Wagon Rides at Sunset Hill Farm; Saturday, July 20, 6-10 p.m. Cost $3 per person. Come to Sunset Hill for a Saturday evening 30 minute ride through the park. Last wagon will depart at 9:30 p.m. Group reservations/rates are $60 per wagon (20-25 people) and will last 30-45 minutes. Wagon rides can also be booked for private events. Gadgets and Gizmos for Independent Living; Wednesday, July 17, 10 a.m. at Sunset Hill Farm. Find out about all of the cool gadgets and gizmos that are available to help with independent living. Free. Sponsored by Purdue Extension Education Programs.

The following programs are sponsored by Porter Regional Hospital.

Year Round Run Club -- Tue. -- Thur., 8-9 a.m. Free. Join Dan Sturgell, an experienced trail runner, for a run to discover the beauty of Sunset Hill. The length of the run varies, but will traverse grass, hills, and woodland trails.

Women’s Walk Club -- Tue./Thur. -- 8-9 a.m. Free. Join Jenna Martin, RN, for a walk on the challenging terrain of Sunset Hill Farm. Must be 18 years or older.

Sunset Dog Walkers -- Tue./Thur.-- 10-11 a.m. Free. Bring your four legged friends on a leash for a walk on the trails at Sunset Hill Farm. Jenna Martin, RN, and one of her four legged friends will offer wellness information and encouragement for the dogs and their walkers.
