The Porter County
Health Department was reporting this morning a surge in COVID-19 cases in
the county and another death.
The victim was a
Center Township resident in the 50-59 age group.
Over the last 24
hours 30 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported to the Health Department
(17 new cases on Thursday), to bring the total to 467, up from 437 on
Thursday, an increase of 6.9 percent. Over the last 48 hours, there have
been 37 new cases of COVID-19 in Porter County, a spike of 11.2 percent. Of
those 37 new cases, 31 are in Center Township, whose case load over the last
two days has jumped by 33 percent.
are currently hospitalized, down from 26 on Thursday; while 287 have
recovered, up from 276 on Thursday.
To date 21 Porter
County residents have died from COVID-19: four Westchester Township
residents; one Liberty Township resident; 10 Portage Township residents; and
six Center Township residents. Deaths by demographic: five 50-59; four
70-79; seven 80-89; and five 90-and-over. Ten men have died and 11 women.
Total active cases
in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 159 (141 on
tests conducted in Porter County as of Thursday, according to the Indiana
State Department of Health: 3,578, up from 3,251 on Wednesday, an increase
of 10 percent over the previous 24 hours.

cases (33 on Thursday), four deaths (four), no hospitalizations (one), 24
recoveries (22). Five active cases.
-- Liberty: 21
cases, one death, two hospitalizations, 14 recoveries (unchanged from
Thursday). Six active cases.

case (one on Thursday), no hospitalizations (none), one recovery (one). One
-- Pine: three
cases, three recoveries. No active cases.
Other hard hit
Township: 185 cases (185 on Thursday), 10 deaths (10), five hospitalizations
(eight), and 109 recoveries (107).
-- Center: 124
cases (97 on Thursday), six deaths (five), nine hospitalizations (13), and
51 recoveries (48).
-- Washington: 47
cases (47 on Thursday), no hospitalizations (none), and 43 recoveries (39 on
Thursday). These 47 cases include 40 confirmed at the Porter County Jail.
-- Union: 19 cases
(19 on Thursday), one hospitalization (two), and 16 recoveries (16).
