The Book of Golden Deeds Award is an Exchange Club program that honors worthy
individuals who continuously donate time, talent and energy to help those in
need.
Sometimes, fine citizens in our community perform numerous good deeds that go
unnoticed.
This year, however, the Duneland Exchange Club has chosen to honor Dan and
Joy Johnston with the Book of Golden Deeds Award for their continuous
donation of time, kindness and energy to the benefit of those in need.
Dan and Joy, members of St. John’s United Church, have been a part of the
Duneland United Churches Mission since its inception, in a small shop just
north of the railroad tracks on Calumet.
The Resale Shop is now in its third home, located on Broadway near 6th
Street, and the organization has recently celebrated the paying off of that
mortgage.
The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday. Dan and Joy are there almost all
day, every day, to insure the continued success of this shop that is changing
the community one life at a time.
The Duneland Resale Mission has provided a variety of individuals, families
and service groups the funds necessary to continue to achieve their goals by
donating over $650,000 back into the community over the past seven years.
The Johnsons are extremely positive as they go about their day working with
their fellow community members.
Dan and Joy Johnston accepted this award on behalf of the 95 volunteers
representing 20 different churches who keep the Resale Shop going.
